Residential

Will my room have ensuite facilities?

Our rooms located on the first floor have hand wash basins but no ensuite facilities. This is never a problem as we have 3 toilets and 2 spacious bathrooms for you to use which are located just across the corridor from your room. Our staff team are always available to assist you should you require it. Our rooms located on the first floor have an ensuite toilet and wash basin.

Can I bring my own furniture?

Yes. We encourage our residents to personalise their rooms so they feel as homely as possible.

What if my loved one has suspected dementia?

We assess all service users on an individual basis offering trial days and nights to ensure that we are able to meet the individual’s needs.

Can I keep my own GP?

If you are from the local area then yes you can keep your G.P. If this is not possible we have good relationships with our local GP practices who are very supportive.

How do I visit my loved one?

We encourage families to visit and be involved with what we are doing at Yercombe Lodge. You can visit any time and do not need to book first. We ask that all visitors sign into and out of the building using our signing in books located at each entrance.

How is my medication managed? Are you able to collect it from the pharmacy?

If you are able to manage your own medication we will encourage you to remain independent. We will complete all the required assessments with you and will provide you with a lockable drawer and box for you to store you medication in.

If you are unable to manage your own medication then our trained staff team will do this for you.

Our local pharmacy delivers all medications to us.

Respite

Is there a limit on how long or short my stay can be?

You can come for just an overnight stay, a weekend, a week or two it is up to you. The longest period you would be able to stay with us on respite is 6 months.

Do you have daily newspapers?

We have daily newspapers delivered. If you inform us of the newspaper you like to read we will ensure we get it for you.

Will there be any activities for me to do while I am there?

We have an activities co-ordinator who will offer daily activities, as well as a book corner, TV lounge and compute room for you to use.

Are the respite rooms away from your residential rooms?

Our respite rooms are part of the whole home so you will be able to interact with other respite users as well as our longer stay residents. Many of our regular respite users say how nice it is to have familiar faces to chat to each time they come.

What if I need specialist equipment?

We have lifting equipment including stand aids and total hoist. Our bedrooms have profiling beds and chairs and our bathrooms are fully equipped with assisted baths. We do ask that you bring your own walking aids i.e. walking frame or wheel chair with you. An assessment will be carried out before your stay to ensure that we can meet you need and have everything in place.

Are you able to assist me with my personal care?

Yes. We have a fully trained staff team who are able to assist you with all aspects of your personal care needs.

Are you able to manage my medication for me?

Yes. Our staff are fully trained in medication management and will be able to administer your medication as prescribed by your GP. We do ask that all medication is brought in its original pharmacy containers.

What happens if I need a G.P while I am on respite?

If you are already registered with a local GP you can or we will contact them as usual.

If you are not from the local area we will temporarily register you with our local GP to ensure you get the care and treatment you require.

Day Care

Can I come for just a morning or afternoon or do I have to come for a full day?

We like to be as flexible as we can be to ensure that our services work for you and your loved one.

Do I have to come the same day every week?

We can be flexible with day care and try and fit in with your schedule but we do have a limited amount of spaces each day. Individuals do prefer to book in for the same day (s) each week to guarantee their place.

Can I have a bath while I am on day care?

Yes we can support you for a bath while you are visiting for the day but we do ask that you book this prior to your day.

Will staff be able to assist me with any mobility or personal care needs I may have?

Yes. We have fully trained staff who are able to assist you with all aspects of your mobility and personal care. We do ask that you bring any mobility or continence aids you may require with you.

What happens if I need medication when I am just with you for the day?

If you need to take medication and can do so independently this is fine. We ask that you keep your medication safely and away from any other service users. If you are unable to do this then we can store it in our medication trolley until you require it.

Can I drop my loved one off on my way to work and collect them on my way home?

Our usual hours for day care are usually between 10am and 3.30pm but we can alter these by prior arrangement to suit your needs.

Day Centre

Can the day centre organise my transport?

The day centre does not have its own transport but can recommend transport services who can bring you to and from the day centre if you do not have your won transport.

Is it possible to have lunch at the day centre?

Yes. Our chef prepares a choice of home cooked meals each day followed by a delicious pudding. There is a daily menu choice and your dietary requirements can be catered for. If you do not like what is on the menu that day our chef will happily prepare you an alternative.

Members of the day centre are welcome to bring a packed lunch if they prefer.

Can people help me with personal care needs or mobility needs that I may have?

Yes. We have fully trained staff who are able to assist you with all aspects of your mobility and personal care. We do ask that you bring any mobility or continence aids you may require with you.

What days are you open?

Can I change the days that I come?

If we have the capacity available then you can be flexible with the day that you come. Most people prefer to come the same day (s) each week to guarantee their place.

How many people will be there each day?

We can support up to 18 members a day in the day centre.

What disabilities are you able to cater for in the day centre?

We support individuals with a wide range of disabilities and needs. All members are assessed on an individual basis and offered free trial days to ensure that we can meet your needs and you would feel happy and safe at the day centre.

What types of activities can I expect to me available to me?

We offer a wide range of activities in the day centre from arts and crafts to games and gardening. Your interests will be taken into account and things that you enjoy to do will be available for you, but you may wish to try something new.

Can I go to the day centre for the day and then have an evening meal before going home?

Yes. After your day at the day centre you would retire to our residential home where you could enjoy an evening meal before going home.
