Bob Smith

BOB SMITH is Yercombe’s longest standing member at the day centre. We thought it would be a good idea to ask Bob for his thoughts about the centre and the changes he has seen.
What days do you attend the day centre?I attend on Wednesdays and Fridays.

How long have you been attending Yercombe?
I have been coming to Yercombe day centre for 38 years and one day. I am one of the original members.

What makes you want to attend the day centre?
The company of the staff and the other members and to be able to socialise with them.

What changes have you seen over the years?
When I first started the day centre we used to have an occupational therapist teaching us the crafts which I found helpful.
I have also seen many different people come to the day centre and really develop and embrace the day centre. I have also seen people sadly go.

What do you like doing when you are at the day centre?
I really enjoy painting and cookery and
socialising with the other members.

What do you like most about the day centre?
I love cooking. I also value the friendships that I have with the people at the day centre.

What would you say to people who feel
reluctant to come to a day centre?
Give it a try! People will be amazed what the day centre is like, what they are able to achieve and the things that we do here.

How would you like to see the day centre in the future?
I would like to see sessions with occupational therapists. I would also like to see the day centre carrying on. I would also like to see new members giving the day centre a try.
